Empathetic Listening Street Team
The Empathetic Listening Street Team is comprised of people practicing their deep listening skills and/or Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We do not try to fix anyone, share our own stories, or give advice unless specifically asked for. Everything that people share with us is confidential.
You are invited to come as a volunteer or as a person to be listened to, if you have a need to be heard. (Sometimes the lines blur, and volunteers listen to one another.)
People approach us and ask us what we’re doing, take photos, sign up for our email list, etc. Our responses to inquiries have included offering an empathic guess like, “Are you curious and wanting to know more?” as well as direct self expression. We let people know that we offer five minutes of deep listening. Once people sit down, we practice reflecting back the feelings and needs we’re hearing, either silently or out loud.
We’ve been offering this service intermittently over the last four years. Most of us are longtime practitioners of NVC.
Our upcoming Deep Listening Posts are listed on our Facebook page and on the NVC Community Events Meetup group.
